Chart Analysis and Chart Pattern Recognition – Ascending Triangle Pattern

The ascending triangle pattern is a variation of symmetrical triangle formation that has a flat resistance line and a rising support line. The higher lows indicate the increasing demand and give the ascending triangle definitive bullish bias. The ascending triangle usually represents an accumulation stage in bullish market. The ascending triangle is considered as a continuation pattern, especially in an uptrend, but it may also mark a reversal in a downtrend. Volume usually increases on a breakout move. After breakout (similar to rectangle), resistance may turn into potential support and vice versa.
Ascending Triangle Screening page presents a list of stocks forming an Ascending Triangle Pattern.
Tips:
# 1As a continuation pattern, an ascending triangle usually appears within a young trend, characterized by neutral long-term indicators and overbought short-term indicators. An ascending triangle resets short-term indicators to neutral and then continues the movement in parent's direction.
# 2 As a reversal formation, an ascending triangle appears in a mature downtrend, characterized by oversold short-term and long-term indicators. This situation usually generates bullish divergence on long-term indicators.
# 3 For the best results, chart patterns should be considered together with other technical analysis signals and technical trading techniques.
Estimated Target: the main trend support/resistance line.

Long-term trend: [See HPE long-term trend chart]
A long-term uptrend had started on March 18, 2020 at 7.43 and reached 20.07 on March 6, 2024. HPE gained -12.64 points, or -170.12%, in 207 weeks. The chart has formed a Rising Wedge chart pattern. The trend support level is at 14.80 and resistance is at 18.70. A Rising Wage is a triangle formation with a noticeable slant to the upside. It represents the loss of an upside momentum on each successive high and has a bearish bias. The Rising wedge usually marks a reversal in an uptrend. In a downtrend a rising wedge is considered to be a continuation pattern. Use the following link to access a Rising Wedge chart pattern help, or use a Technical Stock Screener to see the list of stocks with Rising Wedge pattern in a long-term trend.

The chart has formed a Rising Channel chart pattern. The trend support level is at 14.80 and resistance is at 19.32. A Rising Channel represents price movement contained between parallel lower (support) and upper (resistance) trend lines. Trading Channeling stocks is one of the most reliable and accurate trading techniques that provide traders with precise entry and exit points as well as stop-losses and take-profit recommendations. Use the following link to access a Rising Channel chart pattern help, or use a Technical Stock Screener to see the list of stocks with Rising Channel pattern in a medium-term trend.

Weekly Technical Indicators: [See HPE weekly technical indicators chart]
Weekly technical indicators are neutral.

The weekly MACD line is above its signal line since March 1, 2024. This is an indication that the medium-term trend is up. The distance between MACD and the signal line is low and getting smaller. It indicates that the current medium-term uptrend is getting weak. Use the following link to access a MACD help.

Short-term trend: [See HPE short-term trend chart]
A short-term downtrend had started on March 6, 2024 at 20.07 and reached 16.26 on May 2, 2024. HPE lost 3.81 points, or 18.98%, in 57 days. The chart has formed a Falling Wedge chart pattern. The price is near the trend resistance line (17.06). The resistance is usually stronger when technical indicators are overbought. Use the following links to access Trend Support/Resistance Help, or use the Technical Stock Screener to see the list of stocks with price testing the trend resistance line in a short-term trend.

Daily Technical Indicators: [See HPE daily technical indicators chart]
Daily technical indicators are neutral.

During the last week, daily MACD line has moved above its signal line. Such crossover is considered a bullish signal.

During the last week, the price has risen above the Parabolic SAR (stop and reversal). A Parabolic SAR below the price is a bullish signal, and it indicates that momentum is likely to remain in the upward direction. A Parabolic SAR is used as a trailing stop loss for long or short positions. It works best during strong trending periods. Use the following links to access Parabolic SAR Help, or use the Technical Stock Screener to see the list of stocks with the Parabolic SAR close to the price level.

The price is close to the moving average in the center of the Bollinger Bands. The distance between the Bollinger Bands is falling, and it was 4.92% on Friday. It is 59.10% lower than one year average. It indicates the period of low volatility of the stock price. The Bollinger Bands are often used with a non-oscillator indicator like chart patterns or a trendline. The signals are considered more reliable if these indicators confirm the recommendation of the Bollinger Bands. Use the following links to access the Bollinger Bands Help, or use the Technical Stock Screener to see the list of stocks with the price above the Upper Bollinger Band or below the Lower Bollinger Band.

During the last week, the 20 Day Moving Average has crossed below the 50 Day Moving Average. Such crossover is considered a bearish signal. The moving average crossover signals work better when the stock develops a strong trend, but they are ineffective when the stock is in a trading range. Moving average crossover systems can be effective, but should be used in conjunction with trend patterns, momentum indicators, candlesticks and other aspects of technical analysis. Use the following links to access Moving Average Crossover trading technique, or use the Technical Stock Screener to see the list of stocks with the Moving Average close to the price level.
